Euless, TX - An old business card and a trip on the information
highway led Jim Neal to something new to use along his own street.
Neal, project manager with the Hamilton (Indiana) County Highway
Department, was planning a street-widening project in the town of
Carmel, Indiana. The expansion would move a roadway closer to an
existing residential development, and he wanted to investigate
alternate ways to separate the two.
His superior provided an old business card he'd had on file for
several years, leading Neal to the web site

"We considered masonry but it was cost prohibitive," Neal said. "We
also looked at wood, but it would require too much maintenance. We
settled on precast because of its value, the fact it looks upscale
with texture on both sides and ease of installation."
Superior is now completing the department's 146th Street project,
which includes engineering work in addition to manufacturing and
installing a 1,460' x 10' maintenance free Superior-Stone™ screening
wall between the roadway and neighborhood.
The wall is designed for a 100 mph wind load, with gusts to 130 mph,
and has a reflective sound transmission loss of at least 23 dB(A),
Superior said.
Superior also helped get the precast screening walls accepted by the
families along the right of way. "The homeowners had to approve the
screening wall, and they were initially opposed to the idea," said
Stevens.
